The Party Decides: Coordination Failure and Coordination Success in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Race

Hans Noel, co-author of “The Party Decides”, an influential book on presidential nominations, will discuss how the 2016 election is changing how political scientists view nominations, and what scholars expect to happen on Election Day. At Georgetown University Professor Noel teaches and researches on parties, elections, political history and political methodology.
Arno Scharl heads the Department of New Media Technology at MODUL University Vienna and is the Managing Director of webLyzard technology. The former Visiting Fellow at the University of California at Berkeley will present The US Election 2016 Web Monitor, a big data and Web intelligence platform to track the presidential candidates’ performance on the campaign trail.
Tonight’s event will also include the official launch of the US Election 2016 Web Monitor. Five months before the election and in time for the upcoming Democratic and Republican National Conventions, a team of European researchers led by MODUL University Vienna will release a novel Web intelligence platform to track the public dialog and the candidates’ performance on the campaign trail - the platform will be publicly available from 13 June 2016 onwards.
