Team spirit for a helping hand - Football match raises money for Balance charity

The MU Charity Club and Football Club recently teamed up to put on a 5-on-5 round-robin football match to raise money for charity.

Seven teams battled it out on the green at Vienna’s Soccerdome for good will and good fun. MU’s Football Club, three more teams of MU students and friends, the American International High School, Feelslikehome expat club, and Balance charity participated in 5 rounds of 10 minutes each, with the ‘Campus Kickers’ taking the victory gold.

Alongside Jesse Alexander, Student Service Center head man and tournament co-organizer, two fans stepped up for volunteer ref duties.

Prizes for the top teams and raffle winners were generously sponsored by Feelslikehome, Club U4, and MU.  In total €384 was raised for Balance, Leben Ohne Barrieren, a social service organization that offers assisted living and daily structure in the area of employment for people with disabilities.

Marianne Farraj, MBA Student and founder of the Charity Club explained the ‘sport-for-sport’ concept of the event. ‘’The sport program at Balance encourages the assistance recipients to be active, and the funds we raised today will be enough to purchase an annual membership at a sport club where they will have access to sport facilities to keep their bodies as well as their minds active.’’

Thanks to everyone who came out to support a good cause!
