‘Tafelspitz’ and ‘Nockerl’ on the Gulf of Tunis – MU participates in Austrian Culinary Week in Tunisia

For the event of Austrian National Day on the 26th of October, the Austrian Ambassador to Tunisia organized 'Austrian Culinary Week' at the luxury Residence Hotel (a member of the Leading Hotels of the World) in Tunis.

Two years after Tunisia’s revolution as it returns to stability, the opportunity is ripe for bringing Austrian tourism expertise to the recovering Tunisian tourism industry, and the weeklong celebration for the senses offered the finest in Austrian cuisine and competence.

‘’Austria's position as a know-how carrier in tourism is important in this transition phase,’’ said Austrian Trade Commissioner Markus Haas. ‘’Tunisia is increasingly investing in this strategic sector. Austria serves as a flagship example!’’

Tourism College MODUL Chefs and Lecturers Gottfried Gansterer and Christine Egger prepared gala dinners from the 22nd to 26th October, complete with a remake of a Viennese coffee house and the musical accompaniment of Austrian soprano Ludmila Zelenka and pianist Christian Teltscher.

Tourism College International Project Manager Karl Wagner and MODUL University Vienna Assistant Managing Director Andreas Schweighofer presented both institutions to the Minister of Tourism and other high-ranking Ministry officials, the President of the Tunisian Hotelier Association, as well as to the principals of all the public tourism and hospitality schools in the country.

This international affair was also a multilingual one, with Mr. Schweighofer sitting the podium at a press conference held in French, one of Tunisia’s two main languages, alongside the Minister of Tourism Jamel Gamra, the Austrian Ambassador Gerhard Weinberger, and Mr. Haas on the topic of tourism development in Tunisia and cooperation possibilities with MODUL in educational matters.

The target groups for the week were Tunisian business people and personalities from politics and society, and it was supported by well-known sponsors such as Tunis Air and the ÖMV. About 30 journalists from print, radio and TV where present.
