Student Counselor Fly-in is an international affair
April 19, 2011
In cooperation with MODUL Tourism School, MU invited twelve student counselors to attend the first Counselor Fly-in from the 23rd to the 24th of March, where an international group from the following cities took part: Tbilisi, Georgia; Istanbul, Turkey; Geneva, Switzerland; Zagreb, Croatia; St. Gilgen, Austria; Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Vienna.
The purpose of this trip was to introduce MODUL University Vienna and MODUL College, as well as the city of Vienna, to twelve decision-makers who are responsible for university guidance and counseling primarily at international high schools. Their influence leads students to attend top institutions all over the world, and having the MODUL schools on their radar is a great asset to bolstering the future student body.
On the first day, the participants paid a visit to MODUL College which included a wine tasting organized by the Department of Food and Beverage Management. Following the trail to higher education on the road up Kahlenberg, the counselors toured MU and attended an info-session and presentation by 2010 BBA graduate Christoph Berg, who spoke about student life and the success he's had in the professional world with an MU degree. The day ended in gourmet style, sampling Viennese haute cuisine at the renowned restaurant Plachutta.
Highlights of the second day included a visit to the Hotel Sofitel Stephansdom - the new flagship-hotel of the international Accor chain. Vienna shined further as the participants were treated to a guided tour of historical city centre, a visit to imperial Schönbrunn palace, and dinner at the famed Heurigen Wolff to top off the occasion.
Participant feedback was extremely positive, confirming the inaugural event to be a great success. They were impressed by MODUL’s mixture of history and innovation, as well as the strong alumni network, particularly in Vienna => Plachutta is owned by MODUL College alumnus Mario Plachutta, at the Sofitel the tour was held by MU alumnus Gloria Schneider, and the wine tavern Wolff is owned by a MODUL College Alumnus.
