Staff Spotlight - Andreas Schweighofer
September 04, 2011
Recently returned from representing MU in at the OACAC Conference in Calgary, Andreas Schweighofer is the authority on all things MODUL University Vienna. Beginning his career as a Modulian before the university building was even completed, he is the university’s longest serving employee. While still in the building stage, he worked in the pre-opening office as an assistant to the development team that officially accomplished its task with MU’s official inauguration in October 2007.
Joining the development team in January 2007, Andreas was integral in organizing the initial recruiting, marketing, PR, and admission activities for MU’s very first BBA and MBA cohorts. Upon moving to the newly christened MODUL University Vienna on Kahlenberg, he took up the position of the Assistant Managing Director.
Hailing from a small village in the green heart of Styria, Andreas has been living in Vienna since 2001. He obtained his magister degree in Political Science and French Language and Literature from the University of Vienna, where he was still a student when starting in MU’s pre-opening office. During his studies, he gained experience as a project-based researcher for the provincial government of Styria and pursued adventures further afield. Fluently versed in German, French and English, Andreas spent 2005 teaching German in France, and was responsible for organizing exchange programs with German-speaking countries and carrying out cultural projects. In 2006, he put his skills to use across the pond, receiving a traineeship at the Austrian embassy in Canada’s capital, Ottawa.
MU’s top go-to guy, Andreas is engaged in a variety of tasks to maintain fluid operation of the university; mainly contractual, financial, and HR issues as well as special projects such as cooperations with business partners abroad. Never a dull moment, Andreas already has a full schedule planned for fall when the promotional period for next year’s intake begins. His packed agenda includes travel around Europe with colleagues from the University Communication Office to present MU to prospective students, and maintain the university’s contacts with international career counselors.
When not helping MU run smoothly, Andreas enjoys getting beyond the city limits for biking, horse riding, and backpacking, and has worked as a tour guide both in Europe and overseas. In winter you can find him on the ski slopes or driving carriages and sleighs in the countryside. While a nature man at heart, he makes the most of his free time in Vienna in the cultural vein, attending indie rock concerts and theater performances.
