Past, present, and future of the MU Wine Society
February 13, 2012
Established in 2009, the MU Wine Society has since brought together students from all semesters not only to enjoy, but also learn more about wine and wine appreciation.
Surrounded by vineyards, MU’s location seems to be predestined for such a society, but the activities undertaken over the past two years have certainly not been confined to the walls of the university. Excursions have taken members of the society as far as the Kamptal last summer, where they enjoyed an extensive tasting of sparkling wines from the Steininger winery as well as a tour of the Loisium wine museum.
In Vienna’s 19th district, the city’s main wine growing region and home to MU’s campus, the society visited the cellars of Schlumberger, Stift Klosterneuburg, Hajszan, and Mayer am Pfarrplatz. Regular attendance of the tasting evenings at the Arcotel Kaiserwasser completed the external program.
However, some fantastic events happened inhouse too! Besides the regular ABCs of wine tasting held by either members of the society or invited vintners, the society welcomed Mrs. Pferschy-Seper from Mödling, Mr. Pasler from Burgenland, Mrs. Muhr and Mr. Glatzer from Carnuntum, as well as the president from the Austrian Sommelier Association, Mrs. Foidl, to give informative, entertaining and tasteful presentations at Modul University.
2012 is looking good for the MU wine society, as the first half of the year is already chock full of exciting events. The members will rate the quality of Styrian wines, explore wine and design in Krems, and see what is left of the Roman Empire on a trip to the Carnuntum.
