New partner universities in Denmark and Malaysia

MU has joined forces with two new partner universities for academic and student exchange.

Taylor’s University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is MU’s first partner in Southeast Asia.

The mid-size university in Malaysia’s capital has been in operation since 1969, and is located on 27 acres of tropical greenery. Our exchange students will be taking their courses primarily in the Faculty of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts, the largest and most established hospitality and tourism management school in Southeast Asia, and the Faculty of Business International Business and Marketing.

Taylor’s University is the first and only university to achieve the highly coveted Tier 6: Outstanding rating in the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education’s Discipline-Based Rating System (D-SETARA) in the hospitality and tourism discipline.

The Liason Officer for Taylor’s University is Tina Ronhoevde Tiller of the Tourism and Service Management department, who will be heading there on a research visit in June.

Closer to home, we’ve added our first Scandinavian partner in The University of Southern Denmark (SDU).

The university has about 20,000 students with more than 1,500 of them international students. It was established in 1998 through a merging of three institutions specialized in teaching and research at six campuses in the cities of Odense, Kolding, Esbjerg, Sønderborg, Slagelse and Copenhagen.

MU exchange students will be studying in the undergraduate program in Business & Social Sciences in Esbjerg. A good place to study tourism, Esbjerg is located on Jutland’s west coast in a popular holiday region, and SDU’s campus is situated in green surroundings not far from the town centre. Esbjerg is the base for the region’s culture and a lively student town.

MU has previous connections with SDU - Dr. Janne J. Liburd, Associate Professor and Director of the Centre for Tourism, Innovation and Culture at the University of Southern Denmark, spoke a MU’s Latest Trends series, and she is involved in the BEST EN and TEFI networks with MU faculty Karl Wöber, Dagmar Lund-Durlacher and Tina Rondhoevde Tiller.

The Liason Officer for SDU is Lidija Lalicic of the Department of Tourism and Service Management, who studied in Esbjerg for part of her master’s degree.

The first exchange students will be heading to Taylor’s and SDU in Spring 2014. Learn more about our partner universities and the study abroad program!
