MU takes the Silk Road to success
April 21, 2011
MODUL University Vienna’s international reputation is always growing, and we regularly send team members far and wide to promote world class education at MU to a world audience. Spearheading this global initiative is Alexander Bari, MU’s man responsible for Business Development and International Affairs, who was recently on the road to promote MU across Eurasia.
Beginning this spring’s adventures in the Far East, he travelled to China for two weeks to visit private international schools in Shanghai and Hong Kong from March 1st – 16th. In total, he presented MODUL University Vienna and its programs to 14 different high schools in Shanghai and Hong Kong, showing interested students and student counselors what MU has to offer.
During his trip to China, Mr. Bari also participated in a delegation visit organized by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in coordination with the Austrian Trade delegation in Hong Kong, aiming to promote Austrian education in Hong Kong. Lead by the Secretary General of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ms. Anna Maria Hochhauser, the program included a full day symposium on the topic “A+ education from Austria – surprisingly ingenious”, as well as participation in the two-day European Higher Education Fair in Hong Kong. The MU info-booth was manned by Mr. Bari and current MU students Julia Schneider and Susanne Klepsch, who are presently on an exchange semester at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, one of our 18 partner universities which students can attend. Making the most out of his Hong Kong visit, Mr. Bari also had the chance to meet representatives of Hong Kong PolyU, hold a fruitful information exchange on the latest trends in education, and take a guided tour through their impressive new facilities.
After a short stint back home at MU headquarters, jet-set Mr. Bari headed back towards the rising sun in April to attend the Council of International Schools Tour through Central Asia and the Caucasus. This intense tour involved eight flights and four countries in six days, and brought him to destinations such as Almaty, Kazakhstan; Tashkent, Uzbekistan; Baku, Azerbaijan, and Tbilisi, Georgia. He was joined by 13 other representatives from universities around the globe, among them Vanderbilt University (Nashville, USA), IE University (Segovia, Spain), and Emirates Academy (Dubai, UAE) etc. all aiming to represent international higher education in this part of the world.
The interest among the young visitors of the school and public fairs organized in each city was inspiring, as hundreds of high school students and their parents were very keen on gaining more information about international study opportunities. Returning to MU from his whirlwind trip, Mr. Bari reported that: “Having been in this region for the first time, I have to admit that I was very impressed by the beautiful landscapes, the cultural background, and the huge interest in higher education, as well as the current infrastructural developments in this region.”
