May 21, 2012
MODUL University Vienna was recently recognized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism, for excellence in tourism education. Based on the strength of our study programs BBA in Tourism and Hospitality Management, MSc in International Tourism management, and MBA with a major in Tourism Management, MU was awarded UNWTO.TedQual certification, the highest international mark of quality given to tourism education institutions worldwide.
The main objective of UNWTO.TedQual is to ‘’improve the quality of the tourism education, training and research programmes. For this purpose, evaluation criteria– universally applicable to any institution – have been defined to seek, among other things, to measure the efficiency of their academic system, as well as their degree of incorporation of the tourism industry and students needs to those programmes.’’
Loreto Ibañez, UNWTO.TedQual Program Manager, said ‘’All three UNWTO.TedQual Certified Programs at MODUL University are a good reflection on the type of attention that should be given to connecting students to the day-to-day reality, in a multi-cultural environment, where the needs of employers and society are interpreted and integrated.’’
The UNWTO.TedQual Certification System evaluates tourism programs at institutions worldwide, but only awards certification to those that truly excel in this field. This honour sets MU apart as the only Austrian institution accredited by UNWTO, joining other top universities such as partner institutions Hong Kong Polytechnic and University of Surrey on the TedQual roster.
This recognition is particularly good news for MU President Karl Wöber, “The TedQual accreditation by the UNWTO.Themis Foundation is an important milestone in our strategic plan to become Austria's University with the best study programs in tourism and hospitality management. The worldwide recognition of the TedQual certification will help us in our communication effort in positioning MODUL University Vienna as a truly international university abroad."
