MU gives blood for a charitable cause
November 11, 2013
As part of the MU Cares charity program, 10 MU students recently visited to Austrian Red Cross to donate blood.
Student Service Center representative (and blood donor) Jesse Alexander was pleased that the impetus to give came from the students themselves.
“Students had told us that they were interested in donating, so we wanted to encourage them – that’s what the MU Cares program is all about. Nearly everyone who came out was a first-time donor, so hopefully they’ll be motivated to donate again. Now that the initial jitters are gone, we hope to organize such excursions regularly.”
Each participant donated approximately 500ml of blood, a process which takes about 5-8 minutes. For some it was an opportunity to find out their own blood type as well as help out someone in need of a transfusion. The friendly staff and comfortable environment at the Red Cross put everyone at ease, even those who were a little apprehensive about needles. Thanks to all of those who came out to support a good cause, and we hope to see even more students and staff next time around. Check out the photos on Facebook!
Interesting fact: A+ is the most common blood type in Austria!
