MU gets active for a good cause

This fall’s glorious weather provided the perfect backdrop for MU students, staff and faculty to combine sport and charity in getting active for good causes.

A team of runners braved the cold on October 8 at the Erste Bank Vienna Night Run to raise funds for Light the World, a charity that helps people in the developing world who suffer from visual impairments. BBA student Katrin Zsacsek turned in MU’s best time with a blistering 19:20 over 5km, placing second in her category among all racers. No matter how long it took them to finish though, the MU participants built team spirit and helped a worthy charity. BBA student David Wagner summed up the experience: “It was freezing, but awesome – next year again!”

BBA student and accomplished footballer Saba Siradze, a product of several German Bundesliga team systems, also carried the MU colours at the Trialog All-Stars vs. FK Austria Wien charity match on October 5. The match, put on by the Trialog Institut (which promotes improved inter-faith relations by working with Christian, Jewish and Muslim youth in Austria), featured a team of former pros and students facing off against the Austrian Bundesliga side of FK Austria Wien. Though the result was a lopsided 11-1 in favour of Austria, Siradze and his teammates put on a good show for a cause important to all communities.
