MU and Hong Kong PolyU form official partnership

On November 14th, Modul University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) signed an agreement to further streamline the two university’s goals to become world leaders in the field of tourism education. MU President Karl Wöber and PolyU dean Kaye Chon cemented the cooperation in Hong Kong, alongside Vienna Chamber of Commerce President Brigitte Jank.

MU’s international orientation perfectly complements the Polytechnic University’s, with both institutions aiming to treat students as performance-oriented and demanding customers in order to provide the highest level of education, preparing them for the world of tomorrow. Through keeping up with the latest developments on a global stage and adapting study foci according to the requirements of the current economy, MU’s business-oriented training helps to strengthen its leading position in the ever-expanding tourism education sector.

Together with Hong Kong Poly U, the two institutions will engage in comprehensive know-how transfer, mutual recognition of courses offered, and a student exchange program. MU Karl Wöber praised the cooperation: "With the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, we’ve succeeded in bringing an absolute top university on board. This cooperation further strengthens Vienna's position as a top training site for tourism".

In recent years, the South Asian ‘’tiger’’ economies invested an enormous amount in education systems and institutions. The idea of school and university performance is much stronger than in Europe – according to the PISA study, Hong Kong's students score among the best in the world. Some of the most prestigious research institutions, universities and educational institutions have their headquarters in this city on the South China Sea - including the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which was awarded United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) with the Ulysses Prize - the "Nobel Prize for Tourism" this year.

MU is proud to become partners with such an elite institution, and Dr. Wöber summed it up so, "The close cooperation with the Hong Kong PolyU is a fantastic endorsement of MODUL University’s excellent reputation. Together with PolyU, we intend to accelerate knowledge transfer and attract new students’’.

MU looks forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Hong Kong Polytechnic University!
