MSc student helps students find housing

Modul University students tend to enrich their studies with a wide variety of extracurricular activities such as serving as Student Ambassadors, reporting for the MU News Network, founding and joining clubs as part of the MU community. Some extra-motivated students see opportunities outside the MU sphere where they can gain experience for their future careers as well as improving student life. Bachelor graduate and current MSc student Thais Petrenko tells us how she came to become an ‘ambassador’ of another sort.

‘’My name is Thais Petrenko, I am 21 years old and I just started my first semester as a Master student in International Tourism management.  Due to the fact that I finished my BBA at MU, I had the opportunity to engage in the Student Ambassador program for about a year now. I was doing presentations at the information evenings, I was promoting the university abroad and I guess this is what drove me to become an ambassador for the student-to-student platform HousingAnywhere.com.

I first heard about it when I was on my Erasmus in Angers. I was living in a student dorm that was far away from the university, my room was very noisy and terribly small. I was not happy about it and so I was searching for other options. HousingAnywhere.com was looking for sales agents at the time and due to my long free hours I decided to apply. I was working for them back in France and obviously when I came back to Vienna I wanted to continue.

I really like the concept and the fact that it is a service provided by students-to students completely for free. It is secure due to the use of the university’s email extension and it encourages the spirit of intercultural relations and entrepreneurship initiative. It is very user-friendly and students have the opportunity to save some money during long vacations or short internships. I figured why don’t we use this? The Business University of Vienna seems to like it so far. Moreover, it is the only online accommodation source that focuses specifically on students’ needs. I guess at the back of my mind I want to make every student’s experience at MU as enjoyable as mine is. It’s always good to know your options! ‘’
