Modulian of the Month - Jesse Alexander
March 05, 2012
MODUL University’s go-to guy for student matters, Jesse Alexander is the first face many of our new students encounter upon their arrival on Kahlenberg. From the first day of orientation on, Jesse helps our recent arrivals feel at home on campus and supports them throughout their studies in the Student Service Center (SSC).
Originating from Canada, Jesse had a bilingual upbringing in an English family in primarily French-speaking Quebec. Likely the only Modulian who knows how to tell when hay is ready for baling, he learned the family business on a farm in rural Quebec before heading to the nation’s capital to pursue a degree in history at the University of Ottawa.
As MU’s resident expert on WWI, Jesse can fill you in from Vimy Ridge to Passchendaele, and often ventures to historic battle sites in his vacation time. During his studies he worked at the Diefenbunker military museum shop, gaining experience which he used co-spearheading MU’s merchandise redesign in 2011.
Eventually his passion for history brought him to this side of the Atlantic, leading tours in northern France before settling in Berlin to perfect his German and teach English. In addition he is also learning Russian, ever improving his linguistic prowess.
At MU, Jesse organizes a huge variety of events to improve student life, starting with the twice annual Welcome Week full of both informative and fun activities for the new arrivals. Throughout the school year he organizes the MU Cares charity program, sports tournaments, BBQs on the MU terrace, International Day, and a whole host of other excursions and in-house events to encourage school spirit.
Since joining the team in summer 2010, Jesse has been instrumental in revamping the SSC and is an active member of the Sustainability Committee. His extra-curricular activities extend to the basketball court where he plays in a league including current MU students and alumni. Secret talent: he is a specialist in 90s techno and cuts a mean rug on the dance floor!
