Modulian of the Month - Florian Aubke

Florian Aubke is one MU’s original faculty members, beginning his career on Kahlenberg as a Researcher und Lecturer in Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management in 2007. As of October 1st, he will take on a well-deserved promotion to Assistant Professor/Senior Lecturer for hospitality management. 

Originally from Germany, he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Victoria University in Melbourne and completed his doctorate studies with distinction at the University of Economics and Business in Vienna (WU). In his dissertation, he studied the communication networks of revenue management teams from 38 hotels and made suggestions for effective integration of team members for decision making and performance improvement. For his doctoral studies, he was awarded the 'EuroCHRIE Amsterdam 2010 Student Award' for 'delivering a highly innovative and promising thesis of high technical quality '.

Florian has substantial operational experience in the hospitality industry and international events management. His research revolves around the analysis of social networks with a particular application to the hospitality context.

At MODUL University Vienna, Florian teaches revenue management, hotel operations and F&B management in the BBA in Hospitality and Tourism Management. In addition to being a well-liked lecturer in the classroom, he is one of the initiators of MU’s popular student club, the MU Wine Society which meets regularly throughout the semester to learn about wine and taste many of the local varietals.

Between completion of his doctorate studies and returning to full-time work in his new position, Florian is on paternity leave to spend time with his daughter, who is 14 months old this September.

A busy new parent, his spare time is pretty much accounted for. However when the weather is fine, his favourite place to relax in the sunshine is on his little boat at the Neusiedler See. In the winter he enjoys a quality glass of wine and waits patiently for the next summer....
