Modulian of the Month - Dr. Dimitris Christopoulos
January 03, 2013
The newest addition to the Department of Public Governance at MU Vienna, Dr. Dimitris Christopoulos comes to us from his most recent post at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
Hailing from Greece, Dimitris holds a BA in economics from The American College of Greece and a PhD in politics from Glasgow University, completing a doctoral thesis on ‘’European Regional Elite Behaviour.’’
He scarcely had time to set up his office at MU before heading off to Luxembourg to represent his new institute at an international conference on ‘’Unpacking Cross-Border Governance”. He co-presented a paper on cross-border governance networks exploring data from his current research project, MetroNet (a 1.2 million euro project funded by the Luxembourg Research Funding Authority and involving partners at five universities).
His other recent international appearance was at the Scottish Parliament in June, discussing ‘social media impact on political campaigns’. More information about this intriguing research including a short interview with Scottish Parliament TV is available on Dimitris’ blog,‘Politics & Networks’ where he mulls over his readings and world debates.
His current research interests include networks of political and business actors, political and policy entrepreneurship and social entrepreneur motivation. The unifying theme in his work is a focus on exceptional agency and relations as expressed in the networks of leaders and entrepreneurs. He edits the journal Connections, and reviews about 30 articles a year for a range of academic journals, as well as chairing the UKSNA association and co-convening a standing group for ECPR.
In addition to his academic pursuits, he is a true seafarer both above and below the waves. Dimitris is a BSAC certified diving instructor and RYA qualified Yachtmaster, proponent of open sea ‘wild swimming’ and keen underwater photographer. He has sailed in many parts of the world and names Bonaire in the Caribbean’s Netherland Antilles as his preferred diving spot. He favours Pylos for its tranquility when in Greece.
Dimitris will start teaching in the MSc and MBA in the Spring term in the fields of Data Analysis and Decision Making, Contemporary Challenges of Public Governance and Democratiation, Public-Private Partnerships, Public Policy Analysis and Evaluation and
Research Design and Methods.
