MODUL University Vienna president presented with Johann Strauss Gold Medal

This year's Tourism Conference held on the 29 September 2010, honoured distinguished personalities who have rendered outstanding services for tourism to Vienna. This took place at the Aula der Wissenschaften. Prof. Dr. Karl Wöber, president of MODUL University Vienna, was presented with an award for outstanding international tourism research. He was awarded the Johann Strauss Gold Medal by the Vice President of Vienna Tourism, GR Fritz Strobl, and Tourism Director Norbert Kettner.


Even as an assistant at the Vienna University of Economics 20 years ago, he began advertising on behalf of Austria and in cooperation with renowned international tourism organizations on the development of TourMIS- A benchmarking system that contains information not only on current tourism trends in Austria, but also in international tourism. It has become very important; offering the most comprehensive, regularly serviced city tourism statistics in Europe, and is used by all significant tourist cities in Europe as an important basis for strategic decisions.


In addition, Prof. Dr. Wöber is president of MODUL University Vienna, founded in 2007, which offers Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Tourism Management, helping establish Vienna as a training ground for international tourism. The graduates are globally networked and are valuable ambassadors for Vienna.
