MODUL University Vienna hosts the first TEDx talk at a Viennese university

On October 6th, 2016, MODUL University Vienna became the first Viennese university to host a TEDx event. Coming together under this event’s slogan: “We have to talk!”, 100 attendees listened to ten international speakers including Nuriel Molcho, Blogger and restaurant owner, Prof. Arno Scharl, Head of the Department of New Media Technology at MODUL University Vienna, and Isabella Mader, CEO & CIO of Excellence Institute, introduceed their innovative ideas in 18 minutes or less.

“MODUL University Vienna is very proud to have hosted the first TEDx event at a Viennese university!” says Hani El Sharkawi, head of the university’s career center, and supporter of the group of ambitious MODUL University students who are responsible for the organization of the event. “TEDx is a platform for young creative minds, for innovations and internationality, just like our university.”

TEDx stands for “Technology, Entertainment and Design”. Began in the USA, TED talks have become internationally acclaimed and very popular all over Europe. This year’s theme of TEDxMODULUniversity called attention to numerous political and social developments and incidents, as well as structural changes throughout all industries. Furthermore critical and alarming global situations were made subject of discussion.

In the course of one afternoon, several complex topics were addressed in different ways, new perspectives were shown, and possible solutions through innovative ideas were presented.
