Katrin Meilke joins the Career Center
May 24, 2013
The newest addition to the MODUL Career team, Katrin Meilke comes to us with a wealth of experience in tourism and career center operations.
A native of Germany, she began her career at the tour operator 1-2-FLY in Hanover, where she was employed from 2002 until 2006. There she took care of flight time changes, checking report lists, and handling overbookings. In 2006, she switched to Berlin-based TUI working as an assistant to the sales manager and was responsible for the preparation of presentations, calculation of the budget and the attendance of familiarization trips.
It was during this time that Katrin had the self-realization that she wanted more from life and took the educational plunge. After 8 years in the industry she began her studies in tourism management at the University of Applied Science in Wernigerode, Germany. Her studies afforded her the opportunity to do a semester abroad, and she chose to visit her southern neighbor and study at the IMC University in Krems, Austria. Afterwards she made the move 1 ½ down the road to Vienna for an internship at the German National Tourist Board (DZT) in Vienna.
Katrin returned to Germany and successfully completed her Bachelor of Arts in 2011, and was immediately offered a job at the career department of her new alma mater. Her first position was as a project manager for the career fair, and quickly moved up to a fully fledged career officer. In this position she organized events and excursions, supported students in structuring their CVs and motivation letters, and was responsible for the publication of job offers and internships.
However like many a foreign visitor, she fell in love with the Austria and especially Vienna during her previous visits. In particular, the variety of cultural offerings, the historical sites, the traditional hospitality, and the numerous public parks held a continuing draw for her and she jumped at the chance to move universities and finally settle in Vienna. Here at MU she will be using her previous experience to help a new group of students, as well as adding establish a concept for the relaunch of www.modulcareer.at and develop an implementation of the new community page to her working portfolio in the Modul Career Center.
In Katrin’s free time she loves to be active and do sports such as running and swimming. She also has a passion for cooking (Italian cuisine is her favourite) and spending time with friends.
Welcome Katrin!
