From MU to the UN - MBA alumna Casiana Nicolae shares her success story
May 10, 2016
"I had the chance to participate in in the MBA with a major in Public Governance and Sustainable Development, with definitely the most exciting group ever. The international experience that I gained during my studies in MODUL University set up my future steps.
Through the recommendations of the Career Office I was lucky to find my first part-time job at an online reservations site with a very international environment. I worked together with people from five different countries and even more nationalities while I pursued my MBA and after graduation I was offered a temporary assignment for a senior level position in Paris, France. After leaving Vienna, new experiences arose where I was able to apply the management, negotiation and business strategies that I learned during my MBA.
During my studies I participated in the Hult Prize competition together with some of the colleagues from my program. We represented MODUL at the Regional finals in Dubai in 2013, pitching our solution for combating hunger in slums.
Even though we weren’t selected for the final stage, this project has stuck in my mind and influenced me in the career I was building in Rennes, France, where I was handling operations for the Brittany, Pays de Loire and Manche regions and leading a team of four. On a whim I applied for the UN Volunteer system and then for an intern position for the Africa region in the UNOPS, Copenhagen.
Six months later, I have now a full-time job in the Africa regional office in Copenhagen, Denmark, again in a very international environment, advancing in my knowledge of the humanitarian sector and hopefully getting closer to a mission to the field.
The values, the colleagues and the professors that MODUL University Vienna brought to my life have certainly influenced the person I am now and I can certify that such a university program is horizon-expanding and a truly significant academic experience."
