Community building at Spring Orientation Week

MODUL University Vienna welcomed a new class of students in the last week of February during its biannual Orientation Week. Orientation Week at MU provides new students with the chance to get acquainted with their university, the city of Vienna, and each other. A series of informative academic sessions are complimented by daily events that encourage community building and socialization. This year, new students enjoyed a walking tour of Vienna followed by a traditional dinner at a local restaurant; an evening of bowling in the central Prater Park; and an action-packed movie at one of Vienna’s many English-language movie theaters.

Community building is the key to the rich academic and social lives that our students lead atop Kahlenberg and one of the central themes of Orientation Week. At MU, a diverse student body comes together to learn and grow in the international city of Vienna and this unique confluence of cultures is attended by both rewards and challenges. In a session on intercultural communication, students were asked to reflect on their expectations as the newest members of the MU community and write themselves a letter of welcome that they will receive upon graduation. The hope is that students will approach their studies with a high degree of self-awareness and respect for diversity that will strengthen the MU community and make it a fertile environment for both academic and personal growth.

Orientation Week is just the beginning of life at MU! After learning about the myriad ways to get involved at MU during Orientation Week, students have the chance to interact with club presidents, event organizers, and external partners at the biannual Student Life Fair to uncover their interests and join in the activities and events that excite them. Currently, the MU community is bolstered by 15 clubs that span a wide range of interests from dance and sports to management and entrepreneurial innovation and every year we add exciting new clubs to our repertoire that serve to enrich the student experience and make MU a vibrant community of students and friends.

The MU Cares Intercultural Certificate is another tool designed to encourage students to participate in shaping their community. Students who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the acquisition and practice of intercultural skills through active participation in extracurricular programs and events during the course of their study at MU have the ability to earn one single, comprehensive certificate that attests to their experience and expertise. It is our goal to create ambassadors of responsible living who will lead with a strong sense of social responsibility and cultural sensitivity beginning with a warm welcome during Orientation Week.

Join us in welcoming our newest class of students and community members at MU!
