Bachelor Alumnus Simon Hala joins the Recruitment and Marketing Team

Experience is the best teacher – and who better to share explain the bachelor programs at MU than someone who has completed one?  Freshly graduated from the BBA in Tourism and Hospitality Management, Simon Hala, BBA ’15 is expanding the Recruitment and Marketing team alongside fellow MU alum Aleksandra Tanakovic, BBA ’10, MSc ‘13.

Simon will be travelling frequently presenting MODUL University Vienna to prospective students, school councilors and parents around the world. Among others he is responsible for the Latin American region, utilizing the Spanish learned in language courses at MU and his exchange semester in Mexico.

Although he’s already a familiar face around MU, to get to know our newest staff member he shared the story of his first quarter-century and the path that brought him to his place at the staff table.

''On a sunny Tuesday morning, April 18th, in the year 1989, I was born in Vienna.

At the age of sixteen I had my first longer period abroad, as I went to Austin, Texas, as an exchange student and stayed there with a host family for one year. This was probably one of the most important times of my life in regards to my personal development. After graduating High School in 2007, I did my “Zivildienst” (civil service) at the Samariterbund riding along in the ambulance, which was followed by a time of self-discovery at the University of Economics in Vienna and an engagement with a semi-professional football team.

After finding that both paths were not the right for me, I had the opportunity to work in New York and ended up managing a Michelin-starred restaurant in the Big Apple. Due to unsuccessful visa applications, I realized that a university degree is something that can open doors to some places, and therefore I chose to apply for a program that catered to my interests and needs.

During the search for interesting universities and application process I gained some more working experience as a front desk clerk at Hotel Stefanie in Vienna. Luckily, I then ended up on Kahlenberg at MODUL University, where I did the BBA for Tourism and Hospitality Management. Throughout my studies I was lucky enough to travel to Mexico as an exchange student, as well as to gain valuable experiences as student rep, student ambassador, and working with oeticket.com during the mentor program.

Before starting my position as Recruitment and Marketing coordinator at MU, I worked at ENERGY Österreich, a local radio station and part of the largest radio company in the world. There I worked as a Media Planner in the sales department, which consisted of contracting clients and creating campaigns for them.

Outside schools, universities and workplaces, I have always been very outgoing and sporty. Ever since I was six years old, I have played club football. At later stages I also trained teams, both children and grown-ups. Other than that I am really into beach volleyball, surfing (both waves and kite), tennis, snowboarding and skiing.

Now I am really looking forward to being part of MODUL University to help developing our university’s image and reputation, as well as to do my part in recruiting a diverse and highly motivated student body.''

Welcome Simon!
